American Cancer Society Employees to Receive CareCounsel's Healthcare Advocacy Benefit

San Rafael, CA, November 15, 2001 — CareCounsel, LLC announces today its contract with the American Cancer Society (ACS), California Division to provide healthcare advocacy services to their employees. CareCounsel, the pioneer in employer-sponsored health benefits advocacy, will support ACS employees as they navigate the complex managed care landscape. Other new CareCounsel clients include Cost Plus World Markets, The Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, Teleplan and Tularik Inc.

According to Lou Johnstone, Manager of Human Resources at ACS, "We are pleased to offer CareCounsel's services to our employees. We want to support our employees and their families, so they can understand their health benefit options and get help resolving any health plan issues quickly and confidentially. CareCounsel's expert staff will be an invaluable resource to our employees and to our human resources staff."

A recent survey of 255 health benefit managers and HR executives in organizations with more than four million benefits-eligible employees by a leading employee benefits consulting firm showed that employers are concerned about the administrative snafus that employees frequently encounter. 83% of these employers ranked health plan "problem resolution/advocacy" as an activity crucial to employee satisfaction. And less than half thought they were currently doing a good job at it.

"Given the upsurge of interest in health benefits advocacy and health plan problem resolution outsourcing, our service delivers a timely solution that saves money and improves employee productivity and morale", noted CareCounsel CEO, Lawrence N. Gelb. "This year over 95% of employees using our service indicated that 'the CareCounsel Healthcare Assistance Program is a valuable benefit for my employer to offer.'"

CareCounsel pioneered the Healthcare Assistance Program concept in 1997. CareCounsel provides problem resolution and advocacy services to 20 employers and over 100,000 employees and family members. Progressive employers like Bristol-Myers Squibb; the County of Santa Barbara; Fritz, a UPS Company; Hitachi Data Systems; Nikon Precision; and Pillsbury Winthrop offer CareCounsel's advocacy service as a benefit for their employees.
